The ZBA (Zoning Board of Appeals) exercises powers as granted by Section 8-5 and 8-6 of Chapter 124 of the Connecticut State Statutes, and Number 8-5, Page 9, of Hampton's Town Ordinances.
The ZBA is authorized to adopt by-laws and such other procedures as it may deem necessary for the efficient management of their business. Copies of any such by-laws and/or rules shall be filed by the Town Clerk before they shall be effective. The ZBA shall consist of five (5) regular members and three (3) alternate members, each of whom must be an Elector of the Town, and none of whom may be members or alternate members of the Planning and Zoning Commission. As of November 17, 2008, current members of the ZBA shall continue to serve as members of the ZBA.
The term of membership of each said member shall expire on the date in which their membership was due to have expired under the terms of their election and/or the previous ordinance. At each biennial election of the Town held after the effective date of Ordinance 8-5 there shall be elected to the ZBA one (1) member who shall hold office for five (5) years beginning on the date of his/her election and one (1) member who shall hold office for five years from the first anniversary of his/her election. There shall be a minority representation on this Commission as provided in Section 9-167a of the General Statutes. Alternate members of the ZBA shall be appointed for five (5) year terms by the Board of Selectmen.
The ZBA shall conduct business in accordance with applicable Connecticut statutes.
