Connecticut State Police Firearms Training Facility Relocation Project - Sprague Meeting April 11

April 7th, 2016 General News

In March, several informal community meetings were held in the towns of Voluntown, Griswold and Canterbury to measure the interest in having a State Police firearms training facility being located in those towns. Representatives from the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services (DAS) and the State Police were on hand to answer questions and receive feedback on the issue.

DAS and the State Police will conclude these community meetings on this proposed facility with meetings to discuss the possibility of locating the facility in the town of Sprague and in the town of Hampton. These properties were the last to be submitted prior to a previously-announced March 21, 2016 deadline.

The Sprague sites that have been offered are on Westminster Road and Woodland Lane. The meeting will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Sayles School Auditorium, 25 Scotland Road in Baltic.

The Hampton parcels (contiguous) that have been offered are in the area of Drain Street and Lenny’s Lane. The meeting was held Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Hampton Elementary School, 380 Main St., Hampton, CT 06247.

The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and there will be maps at the meeting concerning potential sites, as well as state personnel on hand to answer questions. There will be remarks by officials from the State Police and DAS, as well as local elected officials, concerning the project. Members of the public will be allowed to ask questions and are encouraged to attend. Written comment will be accepted until May 1, 2016.
